What's Happening in Provo | October 4th, 2024

What’s Up Provo! It’s International Bacon Day—but if you’ve been a subscriber for a while you might remember that we’ve already had a few bacon-related holidays—since July. Guess you just can’t celebrate bacon enough.

A few highlights of today’s newsletter:

  • 🎃 Spooktober @ Thanksgiving Point

  • 🛍️👻 Boozar Market

  • 💪 Friday To-do’s: Financials

Yummy Thai food + quick, easy dinner = Parami 🍛

This is kind of a things we’re loving and a local business highlight rolled into one. We found Parami at the Provo Farmers Market and after taste-testing all their flavors we had to get them all!

They’ve got green, red, yellow, and massaman curries (and we’ve got our eye on panang curry, which we heard is going to be available very soon). Each jar has recommended proteins and veggies to add—so it really is a quick and easy meal, and we loved how authentic it tasted.

Their story is also super cool. Here it is, straight from the jar: “Nika, born in a Thai refugee camp returned to Cambodia after the civil war before immigrating to the US. In college [BYU], her roommates cherished her authentic curry recipes, sparking her entrepreneurial journey using fresh ingredients like garlic, lemongrass, and coconut cream. Nika meticulously simmers each batch, delivering the essence of homemade goodness in every bottle.”

Spooktober: Month-long Halloween Celebration 🎃

Spooktober Event poster - cartoon dancing monsters

There is a lot happening at Thanksgiving Point for Spooktober—and we kind of feel some pressure to explain it right. Here we go:

Spooktober is a month-long Halloween celebration at Thanksgiving Point. Each of the areas in Thanksgiving Point have been spooked-up and pumpkin-spiced to become some of the most fun, and unique, Halloween activities around.

The Butterfly Biosphere now includes things like Halloween-themed Critter Encounter shows, a giant spider web, and roach races! Curiosity Farms has been “taken over by ghost cowboys”! The Ashton Gardens will be having a Scarecrow Festival (Oct 14th - 19th), and more…

On top of all that, each night there will be a costume party! On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Dinos After Dark costume party will be taking place in the Museum of Ancient Life, Wednesdays is the Monster Mash in the Museum of Natural Curiosity, etc., etc. Check out the details in the link below!

🍎🏃‍♀️ Apple Harvest Run
Run through beautiful apple and cherry orchards during the Apple Harvest Run at Rowleys Red Barn in Santaquin, Utah! This race takes place on a scenic dirt road and kicks off their fall festival and Harvest Days. After the race, guzzle down some apple cider, or have a donut and/or ice cream (you’ve earned it), and then hop on a hayride, get lost in the corn maze, zip down the zip lines, bounce on the bounce pads, launch some apples, and so much more. Registration covers the race, shirt, medal, and bib, but bring extra cash to enjoy all the fun after.
