What’s Up Provo! Happy Festival of Enormous Changes at the Last Minute day! 📆 

This actual holiday is all about finishing your New Years resolutions with only two days left in the year.

So, some of us might be busy completing/starting our 2024 resolutions (only two days to learn Italian!), but for everyone else, here’s a quick summary of what’s happening:

BYU 36, Colorado 14 🏆️ 

BYU didn’t dominate the media attention, but they dominated the game! In fact, Kalani and his team were up 27-0 with 8:03 left to play in the third quarter—and had BYU not thrown it away a couple of times the score could have been even more lopsided. Congrats to BYU for stealing the spotlight from Colorado, Deion, and their high profile players, and capping off a great season with a great win! Highlights | Recap

Orem husband, and father of three kids, wins Writers of the Future contest 📖 

It is called “The most enduring and influential contest in the history of SF and Fantasy”. The L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest is a national science fiction and fantasy contest and Orem resident, Jefferson Snow, became one of 12 winners of the 2024 contest with his story “The Rune Witch”! UVU basketball hits new scoring record 🏀 

The UVU men’s basketball team beat Betheseda 119-59! UVU’s 119 points is a new school record in points scored in a home game, the previous record being 113 points. Former BYU cougar, Tanner Toolson, led the way with 21 points. Article

Provo Beach New Years Eve Party 🎈🥳 

A free and family friendly New Years Eve party! This is an annual party at the Provo Beach and a great one for kids, parents, and grandparents.

The party starts at 11am. If that feels a little early, don’t worry…the New Years Eve balloon drop will be at noon. A great way to let your kids celebrate New Years without staying up all night, and it will be kind of fun to yell “Happy New Year!” with half a day still left. (Just pretend you are on Pakistan time. 🇵🇰)

There will also be a DJ, characters for the kids to interact with, face painting, reptiles shows, and more!

2025 Countdown Circus 🎪 

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, prepare for a New Year’s Eve extravaganza like no other!”

A great thing about this party is there are two countdown celebrations, and both will have a fireworks! Get to bed a little earlier by watching the fireworks show at 9pm. (Celebrate New Years with Venezuela! 🇻🇪) Or, stay for the fireworks show happening at midnight.

🛼 New Years Eve at Classic Fun Center
Three different balloon drops, more than a $1000 given away in prizes, and a petting zoo! It will be a party nearly all day long at Classic Fun Center! They will have a toddler balloon drop at 11:30am (midnight in India! 🇮🇳), a kids balloon drop at 5pm (midnight in England! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿), and a 16+ “throwback” balloon drop at midnight (midnight in Utah! 🐝).

🏀 BYU vs Arizona State
It would be nice to get a little revenge on Arizona State after our loss to them in football. Last year BYU beat Arizona State easily, the final score was 77-49, but it ended with a fight that led to a few players on both teams being ejected. Games against the Arizona schools always come with some drama.

The Orem Library will be showing a series of Alfred Hitchcock films throughout January, starting with the classic, Rear Window.

Many of us just watched James Stewart act as the selfless George Bailey in It’s Wonderful Life, so it will be interesting to now see him as L.B. Jeffries, the nosy urban detective who’s confined to a wheelchair in Rear Window.
