Heindselman's Knit & Gift 🧶

Did you know Provo is home to the oldest yarn shop in America?

Heindselman's Knit & Gift—established in 1904—holds the incredible title of being the oldest yarn shop in the United States! And its story is a great one.

Back in the early 1900s, Dr. Doc Heindselman was on his way from Illinois to Oregon when he passed through Utah. He loved it here and so he changed his plans and decided to settle down in Provo! He opened an optometry office, which later expanded to include watchmaking and jewelry. Eventually, his wife and daughter added a knitting shop—and the rest is history!

Heindselman's Yarn has been a fixture on Provo's Center Street for over 120 years. They offer everything you need for knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, and tatting. And they have classes as well, such as sock knitting and pet sweater-making.

Riverwoods Fire and Ice 2025 🔥🧊

Ice sculptures, live music & entertainment, “life-size photo ops”, and fireworks!

Also, this year, The Shops at Riverwoods has partnered with The Food and Care Coalition to collect food donations during the event. Everyone that brings at least 2 can will get a gift!

🐶 Paw Patrol: Adventure Play!
There is a new, traveling exhibit in the Museum of Natural Curiosity @ Thanksgiving Point, and it opens today! Kids will be able to join Marshall, Chase, Skye, Rubble, Everest, Rocky, Zuma, and Tracker in taking on challenges, planning rescue missions on the Lookout Tower, sea expeditions in Adventure Bay, even baking for people at Porter Café!

Frigid 5K and Penguin Plunge 🐧 

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." – Neale Donald Walsch

The Frigid 5K and Penguin Plunge is here, and you know you want to try it… (Remember - it’s “Just Do It” Day!) Runners will race along the Delta River Trailhead and after crossing the finish line, the bravest racers will then dive head first (probably not head first) into the frigid waters of Utah Lake!

There’s some awesome swag this year, also a lot of treats and goodies available to the racers, but most importantly—bragging rights!

Whether or not you believe in Bigfoot, Bigfoot believes in you… This race has 6 events, 5K, 10K, 15K, 25K, Marathon, and 50K. (As far as we know, this is the only ultra 50K snowshoe race in the United States.) Registration is still open, and you can get snowshoes at BYU Outdoor Unlimited for $13! Remember, “Just do it!”

Get to know the foe: Cincinnati is 12-6 and 2-5 in conference (they’ve beaten Arizona State and Colorado). Their leading scorer right now is Simas Lukosius (from Lithuania), but Dan Skillings Jr. isn’t far behind. A win against Cinci would count as a Quad II victory for the cougars, not bad.. So let’s go Cougs!

A common winter-time to-do is just to get outside and stay active, somehow, some way… Skiing and snowboarding are the obvious options, but if those aren’t your thing, here are some other to-do’s to consider as we look ahead at ~2 more months of winter.
