What’s Up Provo!

Happy National Let’s Laugh Day! 😆

So giggle, chuckle, cackle, whatever! It’s good for your health, in fact, simulated laughter is even more beneficial than spontaneous laughter. (Popular Science article)

How to “simulate laughter” (from that same article):
“Start by looking in a mirror, opening your mouth wide, and sticking your tongue out.
[Pretend] your hands are paws by opening them up and swatting at the air.
Then, roar like a lion, and in between roars, laugh as much as possible”

Wow. Strangely specific, yet sound advice.

The Truth About Teeth Whitening 🦷

We’ve been interested in teeth whitening recently (because kids can be brutally honest), so we asked our friends at Pfeifferhorn about the options out there.

We learned a ton, hopefully you do to, here’s a quick overview:

1️⃣ Professional In-office Whitening
What’s unique about this option is it's not a "one-size fits all” thing. Whitening is applied to each tooth individually, and because your gums are carefully protected the dentist can use powerful products that give great results in less time. Just 90 minutes and you'll get whiter teeth than if you used a 14-day over-the-counter whitening kit (and possibly for less money as well, more on that later).

2️ Professional Take-Home Whitening
(Maybe we’re just behind the times, but some of us didn’t know this was a thing.) With this option you can get similar results when compared to in-office whitening, but it costs less! You just have to be more diligent, and it usually takes 7-10 days.

3️⃣Over the counter whitening (think Crest)
If you want good results using this option you’ll have to spend more money (and time) than you might think... In fact, you'll probably spend more money using this option than if you had just gotten it done professionally!

4️⃣ Whitening toothpaste
Whitening toothpastes work by being more abrasive than regular toothpaste. Of course, that’s not a good thing. Brushing with a more abrasive toothpaste can wear down your enamel and cause significant tooth sensitivity – ain’t nobody got time for that.

🦷 Pfeifferhorn Dental is happy to work with you whatever your preference. They offer both In-Office Whitening as well as Professional Take-Home Whitening products, and they even hold regular Take-Home Whitening giveaways.

In fact, they are currently giving away a FREE In-Office Whitening Treatment! (It’s worth $439 and you don’t have to be a patient) 🙌

Wellness Wednesday Spotlight 💝

Hammond Foot and Ankle 🦶

Dr. Jeffrey Hammond’s journey into foot and ankle care started with a wipeout during the Jordanelle Triathlon. Thankfully, he recovered and later graduated from BYU and attended Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, all while his wife attended medical school at the same time!

Well everybody, now the doctors Hammond are back! Dr. Margaret Hammond is a dermatologist at IHC, and Dr. Jeffrey Hammond opened Hammond Foot and Ankle in February 2024 — the only direct care podiatry clinics in Utah.

Lots of great things about direct care — we’re fans — clear upfront pricing, more personalized care, and no insurance headaches. As Dr. Hammond puts it, “By eliminating insurance constraints, which often value the cost of care above patient outcomes, I could actually provide more personalized attention to athletes and patients.”

Dr. Hammond is the trusted podiatrist for BYU and UVU athletes, several professional soccer players, and even some of our local Olympians! 🏅

Find his clinic is here in town at 364 W 2230 N, Provo (by Wilson Diamonds, near JCW’s).
