What's Happening in Provo and Orem | Dec 13th, 2024

What’s Up Provo! About 12 more days until Christmas!

So it’s the start of the 12 days of Christmas, right? Well that’s what some of us thought…

The 12 days of Christmas actually starts on Christmas day and goes until Jan. 5th, and is supposed to celebrate the time between the birth of Christ and the arrival of the wise men. (Maybe all of you knew that already.)

Also, it’s National Hot Cocoa Day AND National Ice Cream Day. No confusion there, and now we all know what’s for dessert tonight! ☕️🍨

A few highlights of today’s newsletter:

  • 🐂🛷 Pioneer Christmas, Sundance Tree Lighting, Christmas Maker’s Market (Friday and Saturday), Jingle Jangle Jubilee

  • 🎓️ UVU grants and scholarships

  • 🔥 To-do’s: Natural gas safety

Lehi will also be putting on their own Christmas Market. Of course, Buddy the Elf will be in Orem, so instead their special guests will be Auna and Elsa! (Santa will be there too. He will be in both Orem and Lehi, because he’s magic like that.) There will be ice skating, vendors, activities, reindeer, a petting zoo, and more!

🎅 Skate with Santa
Yet another reason to get on the ice this weekend (besides the Taylor Swift event). This time it’s to skate with Santa! We aren’t sure if he’s taking present requests while he’s skating, and better not pout, cry, or cut him off while skating, but it should be a fun event and maybe a good way to get those reluctant kids on the ice. There’s going to be treats as well!

Weekend To-do’s 📝

Check for signs of a gas leak 🔥
The recent, tragic gas explosion in Utah Valley should serve as a reminder to check signs of a gas leak. Here are a few: smell of rotten eggs, dead or dying plants, high gas bill, blurred vision, headaches, red stove burner flames, and more…
Read about the signs & how to test for gas leaks

Learn where your natural gas shutoff valves are located 🔥
Street-side: Usually can be found “just before the gas meter and looks like a rectangular nub. For single-family houses, the gas meter is typically located outside of the house on the side or in the back. They are usually only located indoors in businesses or multi-family residences.”
House-side: “This valve is typically a ball valve and might be located where the gas pipe first enters the house. Even if it’s located further down the line, it will always be located before the first appliance that connects to the gas line.”

  Fix your stove burner 🔥

It is not only less efficient if your flame isn’t blue, it can lead to more carbon monoxide production.

Have a great weekend! 😉
