What’s Up Provo! Kind of a sad holiday for you today, Lost Sock Memorial Day. 🧦 😢

Always a tough one... But, to make up for it, the holiday makers decided that on May 9th we should also celebrate Hurray For Buttons Day!

Now we’re happy again!

Anyway, let’s get into it, here are some highlights from today’s newsletter:

Did you know you should NOT brush your teeth for at least 30 minutes after eating? 🤯

We all want fresh breath and clean teeth after a meal, but here’s why Dr. J at Pfeifferhorn Dental advises against it: Immediately after eating the pH in your mouth is so low (acidic) that you will literally be brushing away your enamel!

Instead of brushing right after a meal, chew a sugar-free gum that has Xylitol in it (like Ice Breakers or Trident). The gum will clean up your teeth a little, plus, Xylitol prevents cavities and restores the pH in your mouth back to where it should be.

💵 Police searching for owner of thousands of lost dollars in Orem
KSL — “Orem police are working to track down the rightful owner of a significant sum of money found on school property, thanks to the honesty of two local teenagers.”
The boys found envelopes stuffed with thousands of dollars. “The envelopes, which had blurred markings, included the words “Anderson” and “2011 Sienna,” possibly hinting at a name and vehicle model.”

So many events to cover! What’s a newsletter to do? Not sure, but here they are:

It’s the 8th annual Golden Spoke Ride! Choose from multiple “family friendly” route options, or choose the family un-friendly 100-mile challenge!

Below is a map of the routes and the start locations. (We listed the start locations and the addresses at the end in case the picture was hard to read.)

Everyone will be riding from north to south (“I always like going down south, it feels like going downhill”), and the finish will be at the new Skippers Bay Trailhead at the Provo River Delta.

At the finish line there will be a celebration with food trucks, music, giveaways, a bike rodeo (two in one week?!) and a scavenger hunt. Registration is free (in fact they’ll give you a water bottle and a UTA pass for registering), and the first 200 sign-ups receive a $10 food voucher!

🌸 Mother's Day Walk-a-Thon
Donations to this one directly benefit mothers raising children with disabilities. So celebrate the incredible moms of the special needs community with a meaningful walk, refreshments, and family-friendly fun.

🌕 Moonlight on the Murdock
Cycle under the stars with another installment of Moonlight on the Murdock. (maybe just the 2nd installment?) Don't forget your lights and helmets!
Murdock Canal Trail, Orem | 8:30pm - 9:30pm

🌊 Bike with the Mayor + Splash Pad Summer Re-Opening
Bike with the Mayor and then cool off at the splash pad. Also “light refreshments and fun will be offered.” Love the sound of that!
Springville Civic Center | 10am

It’s the Inaugural Orem Asian Festival at the University Mall! Enjoy traditional dances, music, explore exhibits, play with dragon costumes (?), and eat delicious Asian cuisine from various Asian countries (yes please).

🌸 Mother's Day Tree Pose & Tea
This one includes a yoga session featuring Tree Pose, a relaxing tea social with light refreshments, and a hands-on floral activity where you’ll make your own mini arrangement to take home. Tickets are $65 per person.

🎴 Pokémon Card Show
The "Mr. Beast of Pokémon" is going to be there. Plus table games, lots of freebies — including over $1,000 in Pokémon cards!

There will be live performances from local Provo bands Whirlpool, Tame Dog, and Orchard of Strings, plus delicious food, and Paul Mitchell Future Professionals will be applying free hair tinsel!
All proceeds will benefit the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation, which supports mental health awareness and future professionals in the beauty industry.
