What's Happening in Provo & Orem | Halloween Eve 2024

What’s Up Provo! Halloween is almost here, and the weather has definitely taken a turn. 😱🥶

If you’re new to the area, here is a Utah-weather-rule-of-thumb for you: The first snow of the season usually happens around Halloween—but it won’t stick—and the first big storm of the season usually happens around Thanksgiving.

Not sure if that rule of thumb has held true over the years 🤷, but thought we’d pass it along anyway.

A few highlights of today’s newsletter:

  • Al the trick-or-treating evens we know about 🍬🍭🍫 | Lab-o-ween | BYU Basketball game

  • Pfiefferhorn Dental 🦷

  • Service opportunity in Guatemala 🔨

Local Business Spotlight: Pfeifferhorn Dental 🦷

We’ve talked about candy recently, but we’re changing gears for a moment to talk about taking care of our teeth... 🪥 🦷

More specifically we want to spotlight a local dentist, Dr. Mark Jardine, and the his team at Pfeifferhorn Dental!

Here’s a little more about Dr. Jardine:

Dr. Mark Jardine, also goes by Dr. J, has been practicing dentistry since 2011. His areas of expertise are general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Jardine was born in Provo, he served a mission in Adelaide, Australia 🦘, and graduated with his undergrad from BYU. He went to dental school at Columbia University, and after graduating he and his wife and daughters were excited to move back to Utah County.

If you are wondering about the name: Pfeifferhorn is the name of the fifth-highest peak in the Wasatch Range. The peak is 11,331 feet above sea level, and it is located in the Lone Peak Wilderness Area. 🏔️

Check out Pfeifferhorn Dental “The Peak of Dental Care.” They are located on University Avenue in Provo (close to Magleby’s).

Nothing in this section is sponsored. We’ll always let you know if something is sponsored.

Candy, candy, more candy

Back to talking about candy.
Oh well… I guess we’ll just have to spotlight Pfiefferhorn Dental again soon.

The number of opportunities these kids have to trick-or-treat is amazing. Was it always like this?

We don’t know. Either way, whether you are looking to get out for the first time this season or you’re looking to add to your growing stockpile of Almond Joys, we got you covered!

Maybe the biggest trick-or-treating event is happening tomorrow in Downtown Provo. Provo City and the shops and businesses downtown (University Ave and Center Street) will all be handing out candy from 3pm to 6pm. Come dressed up!

Not to be outdone, the Provo Towne Center will be having trick-or-treating ALL DAY tomorrow as well! Look for this graphic hanging up in the window for stores that are participating:

Why wait for Halloween night though? Tonight, the Orem Farmers Market is celebrating their final night of the 2024 season with a Halloween Eve event. It starts at 5pm and goes until 8pm; there will be trick-or-treating, spooky stories, food, vendors, and more! Let’s send off our Farmers Market Vendors with a great final night!

Not enough for ya? Well then here are a few more happening outside of Provo and Orem:

  • Lee’s Marketplace in Heber is handing out prizes and candy from 2pm to 5pm

  • Spring Gardens, also in Heber, is having a trick-or-treat event from 3pm to 6pm

  • Springville and Mapleton are joining forces for an event titled “Safe Halloween”. It will be on Main Street from 3pm to 5pm.

🎵 This is Halloween, this is Halloween, 'Alloween, 'alloween… 🎵

We’ve mentioned the trick-or-treating events happening already, here are some other things going on:

🧪 BYU's Mechanical Engineering Lab-O-Ween

Why do engineers confuse Halloween with Christmas?

Because OCT 31 = DEC 25

(Explanation: octal is base 8 numbering system and decimal is a base 10 numbering system so 31 in octal is equal to 25 in decimal. Anyway, it’s not a good joke, let’s just move on...)

At this annual event the mad scientists of the engineering department show off their cool science tricks and give out treats!

Wellness Wednesday: Service Opportunities 💝

🇬🇹 Volunteer in Guatemala
“As a volunteer in Guatemala you will build connections with your group and the Guatemalan people. We believe there is value in service on both ends. Not only as a volunteer will you grow but you will also help the communities in which we serve grow. By serving these communities, you are making a difference now and for generations to come. Here are a few ideas of what we do…. we prepare breakfast and lunch, plant gardens, volunteer in the local community, deliver hundreds of pounds of books, backpacks and school supplies to our preschool and local school, offer love and hope to all those we come in contact with and have an absolute blast!”
