What's Happening in Provo & Orem | Nov, 6th, 2024

What’s Up Provo! We’d comment on all the federal and state elections…but as we are writing this intro (in advance) we have no idea who won…

So, hello from the past and Happy Marooned Without A Compass Day! 🧭

Local Business
Foxglove Flowers and Gifts 💐

Foxglove Flowers and Gifts has been in downtown Provo for 10 years! They are a full service flower shop and work on every type of event (weddings, memorials, brand launches etc.).

Miriam is the owner and woman behind the magic. She started out in the flower business by working in flower shops during high school and college.

She even helped start a new flower shop—and eventually she bought the business! “It was a crazy first couple of years (as I'm sure all businesses start out), but since then we've served hundreds of couples, from South Carolina, to Washington D.C., to Seattle and back! Anything you can think of, we've done custom work for.”

Their physical location serves walk-in customers with fresh flowers and gifts of all kinds six days a week. And this year they are excited to be opening their first expansion site in Murray, UT!

“No matter what event it is, we're here to custom build the perfect sentiment.”

Find them on Instagram and @foxgloveflowers on TikTok.

Toyota & BYU have figured out how to weld metal—without ever melting it 🚘️

The new welding technique developed by BYU researchers, in partnership with Toyota, uses 40 times less energy, emits fewer emissions, and produces welds that are 10 times stronger. The new technique involves pressure and a pin as two sheets of metal are “stirred together”. Article

Wellness Wednesday: Service Opportunities 💝

Martin Luther King Jr. said it perfectly, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”

Not all service is formal, but if you’re looking for formal service opportunities, consider the ones below:

🎺 Volunteer Trumpet Player
“We are a Skilled Nursing Facility looking for a trumpet player who is willing to come in and play "taps" for our Veterans Day celebration or some kind of color guard. We will have you for any performing art that can help to celebrate our Veterans.” More info

🗨️ Translators needed for Parent Teacher Conference
“Sunset View Elementary is looking for fluent Spanish speakers to help translate Parent Teacher Conferences on November 13th & 14th. Come for as much or as little time as you can between 2:00-7:30.” More info

🧪 STEM Fair Judges needed
Volunteer judges are needed at Franklin Elementary. The students will be presenting their STEM Fair projects on November 21, 2024 8:30am-11:00am. More info

🥕 Rescue Food (Monday Nov 11th Morning Shift)
Volunteers are needed starting at 9:15am to help sort pallets of food waste. Volunteers will:

💻️ Identify items on each pallet (access to Google Sheets required).
📦️ Restack produce in alphabetical order (heavy lifting up to 50 lbs).
🔢 Inventory produce to prepare for our Tuesday food rescue.
🧼 Depending on quality, we may also sort, wash, or clean produce when necessary.

“End time varies based on the number of volunteers and the volume of produce. Our goal is to finish by 1:45 PM. Any items not inventoried by 3:45 PM are not included in the Tuesday rescue.” More info

Thanks!

Have a great Wellness Wednesday everyone! Get some Foxgloves Flowers for someone!

We’ll be back with this weekend’s events on Friday morning. 😉
