What’s Up Provo! Happy Mountain Day ⛰ and happy Presidential Joke Day.
Bob Dole wrote a book called Great Presidential Wit (...I Wish I Was in This Book) (clever title Bob) and here are few of the jokes/wisecracks he talks about:
After Stephen A. Douglas called him "two-faced", Lincoln reportedly said, "I leave it to you. If I had another face, do you think I would wear this one?"
George Bush poked fun at perceptions of his indecisiveness, saying, "People say I'm indecisive, but I don't know about that."
And another from Lincoln: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
Here’s a quick summary of what’s in the newsletter today:

🏈 BYU’s 1st full-pads scrimmage
“Our run game is going to be good. I am telling you, we are going to be able to run the football.” Aaron Roderick
Let’s hope so because the run game didn’t look great during Saturday’s scrimmage, which was the first full-pads scrimmage of the season. (Most experts feel we will need to lean heavily on the run this year.)
We heard they were going to use the scrimmage to decide who the starting quarterback will be, but the scrimmage has come and gone and it doesn’t seem like they decided yet. As for the bright spots, defensive end Ephraim Asiata was a standout, and the coaches praised the defense’s cohesiveness in general. And despite the “sloppy” performance by the offense, there was an impressive touchdown catch by Cody Hagen and a deep connection to freshman LaMason Waller.
🏘 Record apartment demand in Provo in 2025?
Over the first half of 2025, more than 900 apartments were snapped up in Provo marking the strongest demand since early 2016. Two big reasons why this is happening:
Lots more people are moving to Provo, especially families and students
Homes are expensive, so for many people renting is the only option.
Even though there’s some new apartment building going on, the absorption rate (how fast those apartments fill up) is also high. So, according to some, it might continue to be hard to find an apartment in Provo for a little while.
⛪ Community helps renovate West Provo church
“We’re all just friends and members of the same community and we can work together on this.”
Iglesia Apostolica De La Fe En Cristo Jesus in West Provo needed a little paint and fixing up, and so the congregation decided to come together to do some renovations. However, other locals, not part of the congregation, also heard about the project and joined in to help. Check out The Daily Herald’s story to see the results.
🛩 Experimental plane’s emergency landing at Provo Airport
An experimental plane made a dramatic but safe landing at Provo Airport after its landing gear fell off shortly after takeoff from Spanish Fork. The pilot followed instructions to land without wheels, and so he had to do a belly skid. No one was hurt — just some scratches to the plane, of course. None of the news outlets explained what makes the plane “experimental” — if we ever find out we’ll tell you.
