What’s Up Provo! Happy Three Kings Day! 👑
From what we understand today is really the last day of the Christmas season… Christmas day was “the first day of Christmas” (that my true love gave to me) and yesterday, Jan 5th, was the 12th day! So if you still have your Christmas tree and Christmas lights up — you’re actually doing it right!
Anyway, hope it’s a great final day of the Christmas season, enjoy your slice of King’s Cake this evening, and let’s get into it!

WHAT’S UP
🗳️ Kaufusi’s Next Step
Former Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi is not wasting any time—she’s now filed to run for a seat on the Utah County Commission this year. Outgoing Commissioner Amelia Powers Gardner isn’t seeking reelection so Kaufusi felt it was a great time to go for it. Definitely going to be a campaign to watch.
🏈 Cougar coaching shakeup
Looks like defensive coordinator Jay Hill is heading to Michigan after all. So is everyone’s favorite Genaro Gilford. Lots of changes, but it looks like Kalani will help BYU avoid a meltdown. Some potential DC replacements being floated include Gary Andersen, Kelly Poppinga, and even Pete Kwiatkowski from Texas.
A number of key players have committed to come back next year, (Faletau Satuala, Parker Kingston, Bruce Mitchell and more). A few players have hit the transfer portal (including McCae Hillstead), but there are some big players BYU is targeting to bring in, including TE Walker Lyons (Ryder Lyons’ older brother).

🏔️ Know Before You Go: Avalanche Awareness Training
Minimal jargon as you learn what triggers avalanches, their risks, and smart backcountry safety strategies; ages 12+. By the way, here’s what we’ve heard as far as avalanche safety: Move out of the path if you can, if possible get behind trees or rocks or a building, and if it sweeps over you swim as if in water—but go to the event to fact check us, of course.
