In Partnership with Jump
Could you make the jump?

Have you ever seen those squirrel suit guys that jump off a cliff and then basically fly around a canyon or something?
Of course you have, and you’ve probably thought that it looked amazing — but also way too dangerous and reckless and crazy, etc., etc.
Well, what if you could do it but you were guaranteed that it would be 100% safe? See what we mean — watch normal people doing the jump 😱
If you go: Get 20% off with the promo code whatsup20

💰 Utah Treasure Updates
In case you weren’t aware already, the 2025 Utah Treasure Hunt is happening right now. In case you aren’t aware what that means, it’s the sixth annual adventure in which the organizers, John Maxim and David Cline, hide money on public lands in northern Utah (in this case it’s $25,000) for some lucky treasure hunters to find. (People come from out of state to participate.)
Like they do every year, they’ve released a cryptic poem about how to find the treasure and like every year they supplement it with weekly hints. Here are two of the most recent hints they’ve released and what people are saying about them:
Hint 9: The “Chinese Checkers” Lines
In the original draft of the poem there were two lines that the decided to scrap. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t helpful in some way. Here they are:
“When you are wearied and tired trekkers,
sit down for a game of Chinese Checkers.”
Some think this hint refers to a designated rest area on the trail — somewhere hikers naturally pause and sit down, like a bench of something. Others have talked about a large rock with drill‑hole patterns in Cottonwood Canyon which resembles a Chinese Checkers board.
Hint 10: “Walk the Plank”
The hint says: “The ‘plank’ in the poem refers to some kind of wooden boards you will cross at some point on the trail.”
Numerous hunters point to the narrow wooden bridge over Battle Creek, calling it the literal “plank” you must cross. Others think it refers to one of the boardwalks on trails like the Bonneville Shoreline Trail—especially where the path crosses wetlands or streams. A few suggest other creek crossings in Emigration or Mill Creek Canyon.
(Click the blue header link to read the whole poem. Scroll down a little to see the link for to all the hints they’ve released.)
🎣 Utah Lake’s surprising economic impact
A new Ernst & Young‑commissioned 2024 tourism study shows Utah Lake generated ~$74.3 million in visitor spending, supporting 823 jobs, adding $56.8 million to GDP, and delivering roughly $9.2 million in state/local taxes to Utah County. Not going to pretend we understand this fully, but that doesn’t mean we’re not impressed/surprised.
🚀 Launchpad in Utah?
Utah is taking another run at hosting a space launch facility more than 50 years after its initial bid lost to Cape Canaveral. (Didn’t know that was a thing.) In January of this year, SB62 was passed and the state formed a 13‑member Spaceport Exploration Committee which recently started evaluating potential sites (like Delta and Green River)!

Local Business Spotlight
Barbell Therapy 💪

Barbell Therapy in Orem is owner-run and locally grown. It’s open 24/7, has elite level equipment, but no contracts, and no extra fees.
We talked to Jake, the owner of Barbell Therapy to learn more.
How it started: After Jake got home from his mission he was 6'1", 140 pounds, but over the next few years, he gained 70 pounds of muscle, earned a personal training certification, and then built a garage gym during COVID.
Then, with almost no money, Jake signed a commercial lease. “Signing that lease felt very much like jumping off a cliff without a parachute.” But he started building Barbell Therapy piece by piece. He sourced equipment by buying, selling, trading equipment on KSL and Facebook marketplace, even welding some of it himself! After three years of hustle, he created a fully equipped strength training gym.
What makes them different: “Barbell” reflects the gym’s focus on resistance training with top-tier gear for lifters at every level. “Therapy” speaks to the deeper mission: helping people experience the mental health benefits of exercise. As Jake puts it, “Looking is great, but feeling and being capable and strong is even better and more valuable.”
