Wasatch Nature School’s summer camps are built around hands-on learning that teaches kids how to learn, grow resilience, and follow their own curiosity. (Plus, they’re wildly fun.)

Registration is now open for Wasatch Nature School’s Adventure Club. Kids in the club will participate in hiking, canoeing, fishing, cooking over the fire, woodworking and lots more.

Here’s a schedule for the day:
(By the way, except for the vendors and the carnival rides, most of these are FREE. There are a few activities at the Colonial Fest that will cost a few dollars to participate in, but most don’t charge anything. Of course, Stadium of Fire is very much not free.)

6:00am
🎈 Balloon Fest — Watch hot air balloons launch (or help inflate them!) at Fox Field in Provo. Sometimes they do balloon rides as well if you’re willing to wait in line. Runs until 8am
7:00am
👟 Freedom Run — 10K, 5K, and Mile Run start at 800 N & 150 E in Provo.
🇺🇸 11th Annual By The Dawn's Early Light Flag Ceremony — “12k sqr ft and over 400 lbs of red, white and blue, stars and stripes” in Pleasant Grove
8:00am
🎨 Plein Air Art Exhibit — Outdoor artwork on display in Midway. Runs until 4pm
9:00am
🎺 The Grand Parade — One of the largest in the West. Apparently it attracts 300,000 spectators annually!
🎈 Tethered Balloon Rides in Heber — Lift off between 9am–11am. (Also, their parade is happening at 9am so watch out for that)
💥 Colonial Fest Begins (Orem’s Scera Park) — Cannon firing, games, music, and reenactments all day long

🎡 Freedom Days Festival — Carnival rides, food vendors, and live music on Center Street in Provo. Runs until 11pm
🖼️ Fine Art Show — Browse beautiful works at the Historic County Courthouse. 10am–6pm
🏛️ American Heritage Museum — Learn about U.S. history at the Scera Center, Room 101. Also, happening throughout the days is the “I Declare Independence” activity. Become a delegate in the 2nd Continental Congress and sign and keep your own Declaration of Independence 10am–6pm
📜 Colonial Fest (10am hour) — Colonial School, British swordplay demo, Sybil Ludington’s ride, Tea Tax debate, Patrick Henry, Ona Judge, and more

✍ Colonial Fest (11am hour) — Elizabeth Freeman, Patrick Ferguson, colonial “Elevenses,” Mercy Otis Warren, cannon blast, calligraphy class
🎇 Fireworks allowed — Fireworks officially allowed per Provo City

🌭 Free Hot Dog Lunch — Grab lunch in Heber (while supplies last).
⚖ Colonial Fest (noon hour) — Colonial dancing, school, a piracy trial, Penelope Barker’s tea party, kids' militia, games, French & Spanish allies, James Madison, and more

🎭 Cries of Freedom — Theatrical production at the Scera Theatre. Also showing at 4pm & 7pm
👒 Colonial Fest (1pm hour) — “Patriots in Petticoats,” swordplay, militia drills, Declaration reading

🐷 Colonial Fest (2pm hour) — Flag history, folk songs, school, hog trial, music, advanced calligraphy

🐓 American Rooster Concert — Free concert in Heber.
🍞 Colonial Fest (3pm hour) — Bread with the Brits (“Taste a traditional colonial drink, breads and jellies while you discuss happenings in the rebellious colonies with those loyal to the crown”), let your kids march in the militia, Elizabeth Freeman, Penelope Barker, Mercy Otis Warren, dulcimer, Shut-the-Box game, and more

🎩 Colonial Fest (3:30pm hour) — Hear from John Adams, Robert Morris, Sybil Ludington, mystery Founding Father, and enjoy one last dance lesson

🎭 Cries of Freedom — Second showing at the Scera Theatre
📝 Colonial Fest (4pm hour) — Meet John Hancock, learn lucet cord-making, visit Colonial School, and close the fest with volleys from both armies

🎤 Joe Nichols Free Concert — The mayor of Brokenheartsville is performing in Heber
🎭 Cries of Freedom — Final showing at the Scera Theatre

🎆 Riverton Town Days
Flag raising, a chuckwagon breakfast, free pool swims. In the afternoon there are a bunch of games and activities, plus some live rock tunes, then Sean’s Garage revs up the stage. Free Radicals & Collin Raye concert at 7:30pm and then cap it off at 10 p.m. with fireworks!

🎆 Thanksgiving Point Freedom Celebration
Firework show at Electric Park. It’s free (free parking as well), and the gates open at 4pm.

You’d think the Scera would be busy enough with all that they have going on — but no! In addition to Cries of Freedom and the American Heritage Museum they will also have the opening show for Annie!

Somewhat Useful 4th of July Trivia 🤓
✍ Did you know: On some copies of the Declaration of Independence there is a woman’s signature. Mary Katharine Goddard, a patriot and one of the first women publishers and postmasters, added her name below the original signers’ names on some copies.
🧨 Did you know: On July 9, 1776, George Washington read the Declaration of Independence in front of a crowd in NYC. While he was reading it, a riot broke out and a statue of King George III was toppled and melted down to make musket balls!
💰 Did you know: In 1989 in Adamstown, Pa. an original copy of the Declaration of Independence was found tucked behind an old picture in a frame. The picture and frame cost $4. Eventually it was sold for $8.1 million.
