WHAT’S UP

🔥 Brush Fire in Utah County
A wildfire, human-caused, sent up visible smoke and flames which prompted a quick response from fire crews. The fire mostly burned the marshy areas west of the freeway, and officials named it the Milrace Fire. Hopefully not a sign of things to come…

🛍️ Mall Makeover
Provo Towne Centre’s half-billion-dollar makeover is inching forward: planners backed the big-picture land-use changes for a project that would add shops, an outdoor plaza, about 1,300 apartments, and 80-ish townhomes. They are planning on keeping Target, JCPenney, and Cinemark. What happens to Shady Acres residents still unresolved. Next big date: April 14 at City Council.

🚧 1600 North Construction
Orem’s gearing up to revamp 1600 North. The Daily Herald is reporting it could start as soon as next week. The goal is smoother traffic flow, safer crossings, and better access for walkers and cyclists. They are going to wide the road, and upgrade intersections and the paths.

💻 No Data Center
We talked about the data center that was proposed in one of the recent editions, well the Provo City Council officially pulled the plug on it. They voted it down after residents raised concerns over water use, noise, and overall impact. The decision keeps the area open for other potential developments.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Today & Tomorrow

🏀 BYU vs Texas
It’s a little far away compared to our typical events (it’s in Portland), but it’s probably still the biggest thing happening locally this week. Unless they win and they play Gonzaga (probably) on Saturday, in which case that will be the biggest thing happening this week.

We were looking for expert opinions about the game and it seems nobody agrees. Some analysts see a deep run potential, and many others have them on upset watch early.
Cameron Salerno of CBS Sports: “AJ Dybantsa, the nation’s leading scorer and a potential No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA draft, is capable of carrying the Cougars on the type of March heater that can turn a region upside down…”
Sports commentator Vaughn Dalzell: “…whoever plays BYU is going to beat BYU, in my opinion.”
Kevin Young: “…we’re playing our best ball at the right time of the year”

Let’s hope BYU breaks some brackets, (but not ours), go cougars!
