What’s Up Provo! Happy National Hug a Kevin Day everyone! Hope you had a great time at Marriot Madness/BYU Basketball Blue & White game yesterday. (BYU won by the way, a resounding victory.)
As always we have a great list of stuff happening, but we’d love to float an idea to you all first—please let us know what you think!
We’ve been talking with local restaurants about doing a discount card. (Like the starving student card, but different—maybe we’ll call it the “Fairly Hungry Middle-Aged Adult Card”.) It would get you good discounts at 10-15 handpicked, quality, restaurants and bakeries—only truly local spots that are worth trying.

We’re imaging a real, physical card, (no downloading an app, no connectivity issues) and it would probably cost $15. Lots of details still to come, but if you like the idea, and if you know a place or two we need to include, let us know below.
Your thoughts on the "Hungry Middle-Aged Adult Card"

🛬 Emergency Shore Landing at Utah Lake
A small single-engine plane made an emergency landing along the shoreline in Vineyard after suffering engine trouble on the way to Provo Airport. Thankfully, the pilot and one passenger escaped uninjured. Photos show the plane sustained damage — one wing bent, landing gear collapsed, and it reportedly struck a tree stump during the landing.
🌲Bonneville Shoreline Trail Temporarily Blocked
Provo will shut down about a one-mile stretch of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. They were supposed to shut it down as of Wednesday and it will be shut down for a month as crews work to clear wildfire debris beneath the Buckley Draw burn scar. They will be removing some debris so things can drain better.
The closure spans the south Provo area under the Buckley Draw fire-affected zone. Also, it is being reported that officials expect cleanup and repairs to stretch several months beyond the initial one-month closure.
🔥 Cherry Fire Declared Fully Contained Near Hobble Creek Canyon
The Cherry Fire, which broke out in Hobble Creek Canyon near Springville and Mapleton, is now fully contained. It burned over 650 acres and triggered evacuation notices, but all is well now and hopefully it stays that way.

WHAT ELSE
Local Spotlight
BYU MOA: Irriṯitja Kuwarri Tjungu 🎨🦘

The MOA is brimming with incredible exhibits right now (watch for more details in the coming weeks). Tonight (Friday, Oct 10th), the spotlight shines on IRRIṮITJA KUWARRI TJUNGU | PAST AND PRESENT TOGETHER, a powerful exhibition featuring the art of Aboriginal artists from Papunya, a settlement in the Australian desert.
For more than 50 years, the Papunya Tula Artists have carried forward their mark-making traditions, transforming them into vibrant, contemporary works. These paintings are deeply symbolic, often depicting sacred sites, aerial landscapes, and rich cultural narratives. It’s moving to see how these artists—sometimes painting on the simplest of materials, like old boxes—have created a global art movement that continues to inspire. (Keep an eye out for pieces in the exhibit once owned by celebrities!)
Tonight, as part of the IRRIṮITJA KUWARRI TJUNGU | PAST AND PRESENT TOGETHER event, the MOA is honored to welcome two of the artists all the way from Australia: Marlene Nampitjinpa and John West Tjupurrula. As part of the next generation of Papunya Tula artists, they will share their stories, insights, and the cultural depth behind their breathtaking work.
🧑🎨 6:30pm: the artists will be in the gallery to explore the exhibition with visitors.
💬 7:00pm: the panel discussion will begin.
🆓 This event is free and open to everyone.
🍪 Light refreshments will be served.
