Rodeo Dancing 🕺💃

Lindon Jr Rodoe + other rodeo events, Peter Pan (1924), 500 Books Party

What’s Up Provo!

If you feel like celebrating Dustin Hoffman’s birthday today then go to the Lindon Community Center.

Dustin Hoffman won’t be there or anything, but they will be showing the 1924 version of Peter Pan. (Dustin Hoffman portrayed Captain Hook once, so kind of related…)

Here’s a quick overview of top events coming up:

Ono’s Malasadas

OUR STORY

While on their annual vacation to the Hawaiian Islands, Sophia Bussio and her family discovered Malasadas, a Portuguese fried sweet dough, a food staple in Hawaii. Sophia and her family saw the opportunity to bring the malasada magic to Provo. Excited to embrace the opportunity, the Bussios dove headfirst into the world of fried dough, later naming their new company “Ono’s Malasadas.”

OUR NAME

The name, a fusion of Hawaiian and Portuguese, encapsulates what a malasada truly is. “Ono” in Hawaiian means “delicious,” while in Portuguese, “Malasadas” translates to “bad dough” — a contradiction that perfectly describes the treat.

The Lindon Community Center is showing the 1924 version of Peter Pan at 12:30pm. It’s a silent movie, but that’s a misnomer, there is sound, it’s just not a “talky”. Anyway, it should still be very interesting.

🧀 Charcuterie Class with Charcuterie Utah
Baking Me Crazy in the Riverwoods is hosting a charcuterie class this afternoon. The class will run from 2pm to 4pm and it costs $100. For more information about classes coming up in the future (there are cookie decorating classes, apple pie classes, buttercream, etc.) check out there schedule here.

📚 500 Books Before Middle School Completion Party
The Provo Library has been partying all week. This afternoon/evening they will be having another party, this time for the kids who have completed the 500 books before middle school challenge. The party starts at 4:15 and goes until 5pm in the Children’s section.

Before the rodeo starts, Lindon is putting on a Jr Rodeo Pre-Show where the public can participate. No registration required! So grab your boots and hat and be at the Lindon Horse Arena by 6pm to see how quickly you can complete the barrel course on a horse! 🏇 (Important note: the horses are stick horses, not real horses. Also, if you have a stick horse at home you are encouraged to bring it.)

PRE-RODEO EVENTS
Cash cow: ages 10 & under, and 11 to 17
Stick horse race: ages 3-7, 8-16, 17+

After you and yours are worn out racing stick horses, stick around! Afterwards, the Dirt Dance will commence in the rodeo arena! Just watch out for the bulls.

Tip for the day

It’s national Simplify Your Life week.

Here’s an article about reflection from the Harvard Business Review.

From the article:

“The practice itself is all about learning, looking back on the day (without bias or regret) to contemplate your behavior and its consequences. It requires sitting with yourself, taking an honest moment to think about what transpired, what worked, what didn’t, what can be done, and what can’t.“

Kenneth Rooks Wins SILVER! 🥈

Kenneth Rooks, former BYU athlete, won the silver medal in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase. His previous personal best was 8:15, but yesterday he ran a 8:06.

It is also notable that Rooks was not even in the top 10 before the race. He was behind the gold medal winner by about 4 tenths of a second and he beat out the bronze medal winner by 6 one hundredths of a second.

Quincy Hall Digs Deep for GOLD! 🥇

Another amazing race and win for team USA. So impressed with how Quincy Hall willed himself to come from behind and win gold.

Words To Remember

Goes along with our tip for the day:

“We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience.”

John Dewey

Make it a great day Provo!
