What’s Up Provo! Happy Native American Day!

We have a great email for you today, a lot of things happening today and tomorrow, the weather’s amazing (maybe a little warm, but we’re happy about it)—let’s get into it!

Quick Summary:

  • 🍐 Local Business Highlight: Citrus Pear

  • 🥨 Oktoberfest and Harvest Market coming up, plus Provo Home Show, Big Dig 2024, Native American Festival

  • Friday To-Do’s: Protect yourself from current scams

Local Business Highlight: Citrus Pear

Before she founded Citrus Pear, McKenzie Rockwood worked with hospital patients as a registered dietitian, where she realized an important need: to make healthy eating easy. Over time, McKenzie's vision evolved to expand past hospital patients and include anyone—from families to single households.

Today, Citrus Pear is partnered with local grocery stores throughout the intermountain west, providing freezer meal prep classes along with freezer meal delivery services. Each meal can be tailored to your family's specific needs and preferences making sure everyone loves what's for dinner!

So try it out! What McKenzie and the Citrus Pear team are doing is awesome—such an amazing brand to have in our backyard. Go to citruspear.com, enter your address, choose your menu, and enjoy!

To get updates about their monthly menu options follow them on Instagram or Facebook @citrus_pear.

Frohes Oktoberfest! 🥨🌭

Frohes Oktoberfest! Viel Spaß! Sundance’s The Foundry Grill & The Owl Bar have a special Oktoberfest menu this week and next, and the Harvest Market at Sundance is also this Saturday.

So get out of the heat and into the mountains to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen! The harvest festival has drawn in a lot of great vendors (vendor spots sold out a while ago). Molly in the Mineshaft will be playing along with other great artists. There might be an Oom-pah band, you never know. And of course there should be some great Bavarian fare, hopefully some schnitzel, bratwursts, spaetzle… Just remember to say “Danke, Das war Lecker!”

Parking at Sundance can be a little hard, here is what Sundance said about it: “There are several parking areas at the Resort. Our parking attendants will direct you to the closest available parking area. The Resort will be very busy, and parking can fill up. Please carpool when possible.”

🛠️ Provo Home Show
Whether you want a whole new kitchen, or you are just looking for a reliable electrician, the Provo Home Show has what you need. Meet potential contractors, compare brands side by side, and take advantage of exclusives deals and discounts. This free event is going to be at the convention center on Friday and Saturday.

💮 Dahlia Days
What is Dahlia Days all about? It’s about Dahlias. Thousands and thousands of beautiful dahlias. What’s our favorite Dahlia? It’s a tie between Catching Fire and the Dutch Explosion. Boogie Nights is a good one as well. Anyway, Thanksgiving Point’s gardeners are second to none, so don’t miss a chance to see what they’ve done this year!

🐂 Utah's First Film: The Covered Wagon, 1924
BYU will be celebrating the first film shot in Utah, 100 years since it came out, with a free showing of the film in the Harold B. Lee Library. The Covered Wagon was a big hit when it came out, and it had the largest production budget of any film during its time ($750,000). The movie is about two groups of pioneers traveling to Oregon—their hardships, their struggles, their competing love interests... What it lacks in spoken word it makes up for in excitement and drama (or so we’ve heard). Either way, should be a great experience—when’s the next time you’ll get to see a silent film in theaters? Also, they will be showing the film with a “unique musical accompaniment".

  • Country Gardens & Nursery will be putting on the The Mountain Market at their store in Heber.

  • Lindon will be holding a movie in the park (Haunted Mansion) starting at 8pm at City Center Park in Lindon.

  • And, finally, the Neighborhood Art Center has both the Drawing Club and the Open Studio/KinderARTen today as well.

In addition to Harvest Market and Oktoberfest, here are some other things happening tomorrow:

🚜 Big Dig 2024
The advertisement says everyone, even children, will be allowed to operate large construction equipment at this event. Sounds like a dream come true in some ways! Also, maybe a potential nightmare…but no, I’m sure they know what they are doing. And it is all for a great cause—to raise funds for the fight against cancer.
2301 West Ashton Blvd in Lehi | 12pm - 3pm | More info

🏹 Native Nations Festival
Fry bread for sale, educational activities and booths, performances and crafts. The schedule of performances includes the Alan Groves Family, Morning Star, and the Timpanogos Nation.
University Mall | 3pm - 6pm | More info

🏈 BYU Football @ Baylor (Away)
Hinckley Ropati should be available for this game after being out for a few weeks, but Sione I. Moa is a game time decision. The Bears are 2-2 record but have looked better recently after they’ve inserted Sawyer Robinson at quarterback. Right now Baylor is predicted to win this one, but that’s ok—it’s good to be the underdogs.

💪 Friday To-Do’s

Because scams have been in the news a lot recently…

Learn how to check a link—before you click it 🔗 Scammers disguise dangerous “phishing links” to get you to click on them. Clicking on one of these links can expose you to malware, it can redirect you to fake (but very real looking) websites asking for personal details, etc. Fortunately, when you hover over a link, most browsers will show you what the URL is for that link. (See example below. Also note that the URL might not appear right below the cursor, you may need to look at the bottom of your screen to see it.) URL signs to watch for
