Ono’s Malasadas

OUR STORY

While on their annual vacation to the Hawaiian Islands, Sophia Bussio and her family discovered Malasadas, a Portuguese fried sweet dough, a food staple in Hawaii. Sophia and her family saw the opportunity to bring the malasada magic to Provo. Excited to embrace the opportunity, the Bussios dove headfirst into the world of fried dough, later naming their new company “Ono’s Malasadas.”

OUR NAME

The name, a fusion of Hawaiian and Portuguese, encapsulates what a malasada truly is. “Ono” in Hawaiian means “delicious,” while in Portuguese, “Malasadas” translates to “bad dough” — a contradiction that perfectly describes the treat.

❣️Thursday’s Things We Love❣️

Yesterday we gave a shout out to the new trail at Sundance. We’re excited to try it out, but while we’re on the subject of hikes, here’s another hike we’re loving: Primrose Overlook.

It’s a 3.1-mile out-and-back trail on the Alpine Loop, with plenty of shade, beautiful meadows, and a pretty steep final ascent to what feels like the top of the world. The view of the back of Timp is breathtaking.

If you’re looking for a good listen while you’re hiking (or while you’re not hiking), here’s a local podcast we love: Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen.

It’s all about the power of opening your eyes to a new view of life. Lots of great episodes. Every time we listen it inspires us and puts us in the right frame of mind.
