What’s Up Provo! Happy Friday and Happy National Sausage Pizza Day! 🍕

According to a survey in 2013, sausage is the third most popular pizza topping. The most popular: Pepperoni. Second place: Mushrooms. 🍄

A few highlights of today’s newsletter:

  • 🏈 BYU vs Arizona + Big Noon Kickoff Show, also Mapleton Scarecrow Spectacular, and farmers markets

  • Friday’s To-do list: Emergency Prepareness 🌪️

  • Local Business Highlight: Wandering Wheat 🥖

Local Business Highlight:
Wandering Wheat 🥖

If you love bread, especially sourdough, then Wandering Wheat is a must-try. They specialize in hand-crafted artisan bread and they do it on wheels! We love the classic sourdough (the texture is perfect) and the cinnamon chip. Here’s a list of all their flavors. Each week they choose different flavors “based on the season, the trends they are seeing, and the whims of the baker.”

Matt Clyde is the man behind the bread: “I started baking a soon as I could climb up on a stool and help my mom make cookies.

I started my first baking job at Thanksgiving Point on the day I turned 18. I studied Patisserie and Baking at Western Culinary Institute while working part time at a local bakery. Following that education, I moved back to Utah and studied Food Science at BYU and have been working in bakeries around the valley ever since.”

You can find Matt and his loaves “wandering to farmers markets, fairs, and roadside locations.” We found them at the Provo Farmers Market, but stay up on their schedule and menu rotation on Instagram and their website.

Big Noon Kickoff: BYU vs. Arizona 🏈

Credit: BYUCougars.com

Fox Sports Big Noon Kickoff Show, with Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, and former Ute coach Urban Meyer, is coming to Provo this Saturday for the game against Arizona.

Also, it’s homecoming, so in short: there’s a lot happening! Here’s our summary of events.

First, it should be noted that homecoming events technically started on Wednesday with the Men’s Basketball Blue and White game. And they’ve continued all week long. (There was the lighting the Y, the opening ceremony, etc.)

But as for the upcoming events, there is the FAM JAM tonight featuring Kaskade on Helaman Field (students only though).

And then, tomorrow morning, there’s the Cougar Run 5K plus the kids races. The races will start at 8:45 (show up 30 minutes early if you are racing), and after the race (or before, to carb load, or whatever) BYU will be serving blue, Kodiak Cake pancakes! 🥞🐻 Register

And then in preparation for the game, all the pregame events and activities will be in full-force (just west of the stadium) including “The Cougar Canyon”. Those activities kickoff at 10:30am. As for the Big Noon Kickoff show, pregame tailgate starts at 8:30am EASTERN TIME! Be there if you want to give yourself the best chance to be front and center on live TV. Also, best sign gets $500 🤑, and there’s free food (first come first serve)! Big Noon Kickoff Details

And we almost forgot, the game starts at 2pm Mountain Time. Watch | Listen
We’re all hoping for the return of some key players on offense (unfortunately Connor Pay will not play), for the ROC to show up loud and strong, and for BYU to somehow summon their supernatural-nighttime-powers even though kickoff is well before 8pm. 🔮✨
Go Cougars!

💯 Friday To-do’s

With the destruction caused by Helene and Milton we have emergency preparedness on our minds:

 Have a cash stash 💰️
We won't tell you how much to keep handy, (here’s what KeyBank thinks), all we know is that many people report being unable to access their money or even use their credit cards after a natural disaster.

Have some way to generate electricity ⚡️
Generators are what most people think of first. Generators are great, but they can be dangerous as well. Unfortunately, some of the survivors of the initial Helene disaster later died due to improper use of their generator. If you have one, or you are planning to get one, make sure you know best practices. Red Cross: How to choose a generator and how to prevent CO poisoning

Get a radio 📻️
Internet and cellular were knocked out in many places after Helene. But the local radio stations were able to pass the news and give updates—and many people found this to be invaluable in the aftermath of a disaster. Crank radios are good, and battery powered radios work as well. Also, having a ham radio would be great. German community surviving by ham radio | Ham radio & Helene

Thanks!

Thanks for reading! Have a great time today/tomorrow—we hope one of you wins that $500! 😉

“It’s the journey that’s important. You can’t worry about end results. It’s about what you control, every minute of every day. You always have to have a winning attitude and discipline, in practices, weight training, conditioning, in the classroom, in everything. It’s a process.”
